One of my husband’s and my favorite things to do in the summer is to see the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra play in the outdoor amphitheater at Conner Prairie, known as Symphony on the Prairie. We bring a picnic, lawn chairs and a blanket and curl up under the stars for a night of beautiful music.

To be honest what I enjoy as much as the music and atmosphere, is our picnic. Sometimes we go with another couple, always without children – love them dearly, but let’s be honest – sometimes kids can spoil a romantic date.

Life is a Bowl of Cherries

Fresh cherries are such a treat in summertime! I don’t mind (too much) my kids’ fingers getting sticky and blood-red with cherry juice, because they’re enjoying such a highly nutritious fruit. The only factor that makes them not so fun, is the process of pitting cherries. Last summer my mom gave me a Cherry Chomper – it almost looks like an As Seen On TV kitchen gadget, but I’m here to share with you, it works! And the kids can use it safely.

Core and slice pineapple


There is nothing quite as good as fresh, sweet pineapple. The canned variety will do fine for recipes, but after I found my new favorite kitchen tool I have no more excuses!
