Spiced Cider recipe

I started making this Spiced Cider recipe years ago when I was working at a radio station. Before Christmas we always had an office pitch-in, and this is what I brought. The flavors simmered and came together for a perfect warm drink on cold December days.

I use a 5 1/2 qt pot for this recipe and it would make 8-10 servings, but it’s very easy to adjust up or down. You can even try different liquors for a grown-up kick, such as Captain Morgan Spiced Rum or Cinnamon Schnapps for a “red hot” version!

Ingredients:

  • 8 cups apple cider
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 5-6 cloves
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1-2 orange slices, halved

Easy peazy directions:

Gently stir all ingredients together in a stockpot. Bring to a boil, then turn down to simmer and stir to dissolve brown sugar. Simmer for an hour or longer; serve warm.

Garnish idea: I speared a cinnamon stick through an orange slice for a fun and flavorful garnish! You can see in the picture below how it can easily lay across the top of a narrow mug such as Irish coffee mugs.

Blucchini Bread Recipe

Blucchini Bread Recipe

I am in so love with blueberries, I should marry them.

Fresh out of a bowl, on top of cereal, tossed into pancakes (a perfect reason to keep some in the freezer, by the way), baked in a blueberry pie … you name it.

What I am not so in love with, are vegetables. That fact is even on my about me page.

So similar to how many moms need to hide vegetables in meals so their picky children will eat; sadly, I have to do it for myself.

I have made zucchini bread for years, it’s the recipe my mom always made and it is moist and delicious. I mixed in some blueberries, and voila … we now have Blucchini Bread. Hope you enjoy it!

10 Must-Haves for a Summer Picnic

One of my husband’s and my favorite things to do in the summer is to see the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra play in the outdoor amphitheater at Conner Prairie, known as Symphony on the Prairie. We bring a picnic, lawn chairs and a blanket and curl up under the stars for a night of beautiful music.

To be honest what I enjoy as much as the music and atmosphere, is our picnic. Sometimes we go with another couple, always without children – love them dearly, but let’s be honest – sometimes kids can spoil a romantic date.

Indiana’s Family of Farmers┬ásent me a wonderful array of picnic-perfect must-haves, and by adding in my own favorite picnic tools into the mix I thought it would be fun to share with you my…
