GIVEAWAY: Win a Horizon Organic Back-to-School Lunch Box Kit!

Horizon Organic giveaway

Now that school is back in session for my children, we have our daily what’s-for-lunch discussion. The school provides a nice colorful calendar-style menu that I slipped into a sheet protector and have hanging behind a cabinet door near the kitchen table, and since they can read, I expect them to check the list and let me know if they want “carry” (bring their lunch from home) or if they’ll choose one of the lunch options the school provides.

When I pack my kids’ lunches for school, the drink options have typically been a Capri Sun (either Roarin’ Waters or 100% Juice), or sometimes we have the little bottles of water on hand. They can also choose to go through the lunch line and purchase milk, but that takes extra time and they end up not having enough time to eat their lunch.

So when Horizon Organic sent me a Back-to-School Lunch Box Kit filled with single-serving boxes of organic milk, I knew I had possibly the healthiest option I could have for my kids’ lunches. That makes me happy. And the chocolate Horizon Organic milk will totally make my kids happy too.

And guess what, I’m going to give some away to one of you.

The Horizon Organic single-serving boxes contain 32 mg of a sustainable, plant-based and vegetarian source of DHA Omega-3. In fact they’re the only milk box with DHA Omega-3, a long-chain omega-3 fatty acid that has been studied for its role in supporting healthy brain development. As I said when I offered my last Horizon Organic giveaway, this takes the lunch-line milk carton to a whole new level!

Horizon Organic, in collaboration with nationally-recognized dietitian and author Elizabeth Somer, developed this handy 5 Lunch Needs and 50 Ways to Please, giving 50 healthy tips for lunch box ideas! You know fruits and veggies are at the top of the list, but some I don’t think about often that were on the list are:

  • Air-popped popcorn seasoned with cinnamon
  • Greek yogurt topped with fresh fruit and granola for a parfait
  • Mini-meatballs made with lean ground turkey. Tip: we have a few of these containers to keep hot entrees warm until lunchtime!

There are a bunch there that I like. The seasoned popcorn looks great and I should try edamame. My kids really like that and I never think to put it in their lunches.

I really focus on overall nutrition for my daughter and since she has a snack and then eats lunch, I’m always looking for balance so all those lunch box ideas really help out.

I think I’d like to try the baked chicken cut into nuggets or strips. Maybe then my son would eat some meat for lunch!
